One month and counting...

Today is one month away from my two-man show with Tom Whalen at Gallery 1988: Venice location, so I figured I would share a little preview and cue everyone in on what the show will be all about.

The show opens on September 28th and is entitled "Around the World in an 80's Daze" which will be a collection of limited edition screenprints based off of pop culture subjects from the 1980's done in the style of vintage travel posters. Below is the postcard image we are using to promote the show and a early preview on one of my prints that will be available.

Somewhere out on that horizon...

"Out beyond the neon lights
I know there must be somethin' better
But there's nowhere else in sight
It's survival in the city
When you live from day to day
City streets don't have much pity
When you're down, that's where you'll stay
In the city, oh, oh.
In the city"

- "In the City" by Joe Walsh

One of my favorite movies of all time is The Warriors, love it! So I had eventually do a piece based off of it and since Gallery 1988's Crazy 4 Cult show is taking place in New York City, it was a perfect opportunity. If you've never seen The Warriors I highly recommend. I was never in a gang in NY during the late seventies but I would imagine this film is probably a very accurate portrayal ;).

The show opens this Thursday, August 9th and runs til September 1st, and prints will be available on the gallery's site HERE after the show opens. Details about the piece and show below...

One, two, three...

This is my piece for the Reimagined show opening today, Saturday - August 4th, at Phone Booth Gallery. The theme of the show was for artists to reinterpret exsisting works of art. I chose to "reimagine" Pablo Picasso's "The Three Musicians", pictured below...

"The Three Musicians" by Pablo Picasso

I have always been a fan of Picasso's work and this particular painting hangs in the Philadelphia Museum of Art near where I live. It probably is my favorite piece they have in their collection and I always love looking at it when I'm there. I decided to do a screenprint of an updated jazz style version of the three musicians. Prints will be available at the opening and online, details about the piece below...
